Where to Find Rentals in Taiwan: Best Channels

RHRentHouseTW EditorialUpdated 2026-06

The main ways foreigners find apartments in Taiwan — listing sites, agents, university housing, social housing and Facebook groups.

Online listing platforms

The largest local rental listing site is 591 (591.com.tw). Listings are mostly in Chinese, but you can filter by city, district, price and room type. Use a translator and check the price against the official registry on RentHouseTW so you do not overpay.

Real estate agents (仲介)

Agents can show you several places and handle the contract, charging about half a month's rent as a fee. Useful if your Chinese is limited — some agencies have English-speaking staff. Always confirm the agent represents a real, available unit.

University & company housing

If you are a student, your university's housing office often lists nearby rooms and dormitories, and may help with contracts. Some employers also help arrange housing. These are usually safer and easier for newcomers.

Government social housing

Taiwan offers social housing and a "sublease & management" program with below-market rents. Eligibility depends on residency, income and not owning a home. Check the national social housing portal — some units are open to qualifying foreign residents.

Facebook & expat groups

Expat rental groups (e.g. "Apartments / Rooms for rent in Taipei") have many foreigner-friendly listings and sublets in English. Be extra careful of scams here: never pay before viewing, and verify the person has the right to rent.

Always check the fair price

Whatever the channel, look up the district's median rent on RentHouseTW first. If an offer is far below market and asks for payment before viewing, treat it as a scam.
